Inmate numbers increase at Lycoming County Prison

Inmate numbers in the Lycoming County Prison system increased during the month of March, according to statistics released at the prison board meeting.

Warden Brad Shoemaker reported that the average daily overall figure for male and female inmates was at 264.26 during the month compared to 243.04 in February.

“We saw in increase in every category,” he said.

The average daily male inmate figure was 234.55 for March and 219.57 for February.

Female inmates for March showed an average daily population of 29.71. For February, the number was 23.47.

The average daily peak population for both male and female inmates during the month was 283.

Shoemaker reported that 19.64 percent of inmates in the prison system are on psychotropic medications.

In other matters, the board approved the hirings of Spencer Ross as a correctional officer and Alisa Laylon as a resident supervisor.

The next prison board meeting will be 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 14 at Executive Plaza, 330 Pine St.
