No tax increase projected at this time for Jersey Shore School District residents
JERSEY SHORE — “It is not our intent to ask for a tax increase at this time,” Dr. Brian Ulmer, district superintendent at the Jersey Shore Area School District, stated following the presentation of the district’s proposed 2021-22 budget at a recent board meeting.
Although the budget shows a deficit at this time of $91,683, the district would seek to close that by utilizing the fund balance.
The budget showed total budgeted expenditures of $43,691,190 and budgeted revenue of $42,779,507. No action was taken on the proposed budget.
In other actions the Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding/Memorandum of Agreement between the district and the Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police Commission for the commission to provide a School Resource Officer. The agreement was a renewal of a previous agreement and runs from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2026.
Under the agreement, for the first year, the district will pay a maximum of $56,100 to finance the SRO with $311 per hour paid to the commission on a monthly basis. The cost will increase by 2 percent for every year after that during the contract. The district solicitor told the board the contract could be terminated at any time with a 180-day notice.
Under personnel items, the board accepted letters of resignation from James Lape, security guard, Grace Walk, middle school lunch monitor, Charlotte-Anne White, music teacher and Matthew Hartman, boys and girls middle school cross country coach.
They also accepted letters of retirement from Caroline Hufnagle, paraprofessional at Jersey Shore Elementary and Jeffrey Weidler, head custodian at Salladasburg Elementary.
The appointments of Reed Mellinger as game staff for the athletic department, Stephanie Prough as an aide for Susquehanna Transit and Martin Ludwig as a bus driver for Marden’s, Inc. were approved by the board.
The board approved the following 2021-22 bid awards/CSIU to various vendors in accordance with bid specifications for the listed amounts: athletic ball & supply, $4,860; custodial & maintenance supply, $13,838; copy paper, $27,015; art supplies, $11,079; general supplies, $26,243; computer supplies, $246; and cafeteria supplies, $40.50.
A contract with the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit to provide computer services for the upcoming school year was approved.
The board also okayed the renewal of the employee’s dental insurance program with Delta Dental of Pennsylvania for July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2023.
Other agenda actions approved were:
• An agreement of affiliation between the district and the Pennsylvania College of Technology regarding school nursing students’ clinical experience, effective July 1, 2021 through July 1, 2023.
• Accepting Woodlands Bank’s investment services proposal for the management of the Gilhart Scholarship funds.
• An MOU between the district and BLaST IU 17 regarding eQuip Online Learning Services for the upcoming school year.
The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 10.
