Loyalsock school district to see tax increase
Residents in the Loyalsock School District will be paying more in property taxes next year following a vote of approval by the school board to increase the real estate tax millage by .43 percent. The increase translates to $43 per $100,000 of a property’s value added on to tax bills.
The action was part of the approval of the $25,103,743 district budget for 2021-22, The new real estate rate under the budget will be 15.10 mills.
Other taxes include: realty transfer, 1 percent; Earned Income, 1.65 percent, with 1.15 percent goes to the district and .50 per cent to the township; local services tax, $5 per individual employed in the township; business privilege, 1 mill per wholesale gross sales; and business privilege, 1.5 mills per retail, service or rental gross.
The budget will now be on display for 30 days for public viewing and comment.
Regarding another financial item, the board adopted a Reimbursement Resolution authorizing the reimbursement of a prior expenditure of funds from the proceeds of a tax-exempt bond/bonds or note/notes to be issued for the financing of certain capital projects.
Following a presentation of a new math curriculum, the board voted to adopt the K-5 2020 iReady Mathematics curriculum from Curriculum Associates at a cost of $70,000.
Business manager Dan Egly told the board that the adoption of the resolution prepares the district in the event they decide to move forward with construction projects that had previously been discussed.
Under personnel items, the board approved the following:
• Transfer of Brian Lowmiller from a full time custodial employee to a full-time custodial employee at an hourly rate of $16.67.
• An addendum to the agreement between the district and Act 93 support personnel.
• Noah Bower, transportation supervisor at a prorated salary of $40,000.
• Christine Prohidney as a substitute transportation coordinator to provide coverage and consulting services at $20 per hour.
• Allison Betts, special education teacher at a salary of $58,394.
• Amy Fessler, school nurse at a salary of $54,027.
• Daniel Nagel, mathematics teacher at a salary of $58,394.
• Christianna Woodling, elementary teacher at a salary of $46,559.
• Jensen Drick, bus maintenance employee, $13.25 per hour.
• Donnie Clapper, substitute food service employee, $10 per hour.
the board accepted the resignations of Jamie Yonkin, assistant high school principal, effective June 30; Victoria Krout, English Language Arts teacher, effective June 11; Marjorie Cramer, paraprofessional, effective April 26; and Henry Miller, school van drive, effective April 23.
The board approved an agreement between the district and the Loyalsock Township Education Support Professionals Association which runs from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2025. The Lycoming Career and Technology budget for 2021-22 was also approved.
Board members present were: Charles Edmonds, Hal Gee, Christian Kiessling, Robert Leidhecker, Marissa Moore, Carolyn Strickland, Melvin Wentzel and Michael Zicolello. Absent: Valerie Komarnicki.
The next board meeting will be a work session at 6 p.m. May 26 at the District Board Room, 1605 Four Mile Drive.
