Sheriff, judge candidates picked

Lycoming County Sheriff Mark Lusk appeared to easily capture the Republican nomination for his office, according to unofficial results of Tuesday’s primary election.

Denise Dieter, a local attorney, was outdistancing her opponent for the Republican nomination for District Judge.

Unofficial returns revealed Lusk with 11,698 votes to 4,097 votes for his opponent, Daniel Strailey, according to the most recent available unofficial election results.

Lusk and Strailey, both of whom served as municipal police chiefs, touted their long careers in law enforcement.

Lusk has served as county sheriff for 12 years.

Strailey is employed as a deputy sheriff with Sullivan County.

Dieter received 1,929 votes to 1,040 for her opponent, Katelyn Ann Wasson, on the Republican ticket, according to unofficial election results.

Dieter was ahead of her opponent on the Democratic ticket as well with 416 votes to 299 for Wasson

She is a practicing attorney of 28 years.

Wasson is involved in her family’s business.

The 29th Judicial District includes all of Jersey Shore and several surrounding townships.

The position becomes vacant with the retirement of District Judge Jerry Lepley.
