If nature cooperates, the fireworks show at Lycoming County Fair at 9:30 p.m. Thursday should be seen in all of its spectacular glory.
National Weather Service forecaster Amanda Wagner said the weather through Sunday will be a combination of hot, sticky, humid and unsettled air that creates a combination of showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoons and evenings.
However, the fireworks show, which is always highly anticipated, should be rain-free, according to the forecaster.
The soft opening of the fairgrounds in Hughesville today may require getting under the umbrella or at least temporary shelter.
The fair opens at 4 p.m. this afternoon and one of the activities tonight is a hayride, but Wagner said there is a 70% chance of showers and a thunderstorm.
"Hughesville is on the border for severe risk and marginal risk," Wagner said.
That means there is a strong possibility for thunderstorms, which can bring gusty winds and heavy downpours, she said.
Thursday appeared to be the clearest of the days in the fair's early schedule.
"It looks to be drier," she said, adding, "there may be an isolated shower."
On Friday, one of the highlights is a Country Music Festival at 6:30 p.m., and the weather could cooperate.
"There's a slight chance of showers in the afternoon," Wagner said. "It's hit or miss."
Saturday and Sunday weather also appeared to be unsettled, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms each afternoon, she said.
Temperatures also are expected to be their typical summer fair selves.
Today, the high will be in the upper-80-degrees.
Thursday is going to approach 90, while Friday is expected to be a sizzler, with temperatures in the mid-90s.
The weekend, while unsettled in the skies, is expected to be in the low to mid- to high 80s, she said.
"It will be humid," Wagner said.
