New City of Williamsport website now up and running

The new city website was up and running as of Tuesday.

It can be accessed at www.cityofwilliamsport.org.

The site was redesigned by Spyke Krepshaw, assistant professor of computer information technology at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, with city input and approved by council.

Mayor Derek Slaughter announced the city website redesign and how it was “live.”

“I ran on transparency, efficiency and accountability and the new website is another step in that direction,” he said.

“The website is fluid and will continue to be updated and improved upon,” he said.

The site provides links to sitting members on various city departments, to include: codes, fire, police, community and economic development, finance, human resources, public works, recreation, River Valley Transit, treasurer and tax collector and Williamsport Parking Authority.

Its homepage depicts a photograph of City Hall at 245 W. Fourth St. The site has a top bar with the seal of the city to the left and government and department links and a news and documents center area.

The site has quick links, a right-to-know form (which is how the public may obtain certain information that has been withheld but which the public may have a right to see) and lists those on the newly created Americans with Disabilities Act Joint Committee.

There are lists with photographs the seven City Council members, their political party affiliation, and a section where people may send their council representatives a message called “Get in touch.”

To the left of the homepage are the links to the mayor’s office, council, clerk, and boards, commissions and authorities.

Below at the bottom is an area to help guide users called “I am looking for,” a kind of search bar.

Also, the site has useful links such as places to pay property taxes, online tax certifications and local service tax filing.

As the city is mandated to meet the accessibility law, the site accommodates the disability community and provides the city general telephone number and hours of operation as 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Additionally, the site links to other social media sites.
