Jury selection is to begin this morning for a man accused in the 2019 slaying of a woman patronizing a Newberry convenience market.
Ikeem Fogan, 23, of Williamsport faces trial for allegedly shooting and killing Rhonda McPeak and wounding JoBeth Wetzel during a botched burglary of the Uni-Mart in the 1900 block of West Fourth Street.
McPeak was a customer inside the store where Wetzel was working at the time of the burglary.
After entering the store at around 9:10 p.m., Fogan allegedly put his arm around McPeak's neck and pointed a gun at Wetzel while demanding money. Wetzel attempted to defend herself, at which point both women were shot.
McPeak was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fogan faces 12 charges, including criminal homicide, criminal attempt of homicide, robbery, aggravated assault, carrying a firearm not to be carried without a license, possession of a weapon, unlawful restraint, and conspiracy to inflict serious bodily injury during a robbery.
Once a jury is seated, the trial is expected to last about a week.
Martin Wade, first assistant district attorney, is prosecuting the case. Nicole Spring, chief public defender, will represent Fogan. County Judge Marc Lovecchio will preside.
Fogan is being held without bail in the Lycoming County Prison.
