Ramp to make City Hall more accessible underway

Skilled laborers are installing the new accessible ramp outside of Williamsport City Hall over the next month, city officials said.
LandServe Inc., the general contractor, of Boalsburg, is doing the work for $166,000 and sub-contracted Plumbing Masters, which is installing the water line services, said Jon Sander, city engineer.
LandServe masons are installing more than 20 pile foundations fortified with rebar, Sander said.
Plumbing Masters, for the same contract price included in the $166,000 job, is installing water lines, including a separate line for domestic use and one for fire suppression or sprinkler services and fires in general, Sander said.
Realistically, he said, the work is expected to be completed in about one month.
The pre-cast ramp will then be installed, he said.
The ramp has railings and a look appropriately suiting the historic building. It is a project that came in about $300,000 less in cost because it is pre-fabricated, Sander said.
The ramp is part of the city commitment to meet a consent decree it has with Center for Independent Living, Roads to Freedom, he said.
The project, including the water main work, pre-fab construction and installation of the ramp, was approved ahead of time by City Council.
