Planners mull solar use ordinance
The Lycoming County Planning Commission discussed a proposed ordinance to address solar power for commercial and residential use.
Mark Haas, county development services supervisor, said the ordinance would include requirements to ensure solar energy sites are compatible with the surrounding landscape.
Shannon Rossman, executive director, county planning and community development, noted that about 5,000 acres in Montour County are being proposed for solar energy.
Earlier this year, Montour County commissioners passed an ordinance for regulating solar use.
Rossman said officials considered Montour’s ordinance in creating one for Lycoming County.
No action was taken on the ordinance, and planners agreed to take up the issue at a later meeting.
In other matters, planners approved a subdivision and land development plan in Muncy Township.
The plan on property off Route 220 owned by Gary Jones involves the subdivision of a 58-acre parcel into a pair of two-lot acres.
Concern was raised regarding the ability of fire apparatus to enter or exit the property.
After some discussion, approval was given under several conditions including the widening of the driveway serving the properties to 16 feet.
Rossman reported to the board that two open seats on the planning commission have been filled.
Chace Kelch, who had been appointed to fill the unexpired term of Michael Sherman, will continue to serve on the board.
Denise Reis fills the seat previously held by Carl Nolan.
Both were approved to serve on the board by Lycoming County commissioners.
Rossman also announced the recent hirings of William Kleese, natural resource planner; Alison Herman, community & economic development planner; and Sherrie Hook, administrative support.
