More business coming to Industrial Park

In industrial park just south of Lycoming County is expected to have a new tenant.

Bimbo Bakeries USA Inc. has made plans to erect a 400,000-squarefoot building in the Great Stream Commons along Route 15.

Union County officials confirmed that Bimbo has interest in the property.

Bob Garrett, confirmed that Bimbo is interested in the property.

“They are bringing together several of their operations from facilities that no longer work for modern baking capabilities,” Bob Garrett, president and CEO, Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce, said.

Precise plans by the company are unknown.

Bimbo officials could not be reached for comment for this story.

Bimbo operates a baking facility along Lycoming Creek Road in Williamsport.

Business development in Great Stream Commons, owned by Union County, has picked up in the past year.

River Run Foods, Northumberland, is proposing a new facility on 36 acres of property.

Most recently, seven acres of property just south of Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland became the site of a Snappy’s gas station.

In addition, PNK Holdings purchased more than 150 acres of Great Streams property from Union County, according to Union County Planning Commissioner Director Shawn McLaughlin.

Plans for the lot are unknown, he said.

At one time, Target had planned to build a distribution center in Great Streams Commons before abandoning those plans and eventually selling the lot in 2019 to JM Industrial Realty LLC.

“We only have two lots left in the park,”McLaughlin said.

Garrett said the Bimbo’s facility will bring additional family-sustaining jobs to the area. Numbers of jobs are unknown.

He noted that Great Stream Commons for too long has been a vast property of “underperforming real estate” and additional development at the site is welcome news.

“This is what gets people like me out of bed every morning,” he said.

McLaughlin said the Bimbo building is under construction but is unsure of Bimbo’s plans for the site.

“I’m guessing it will ready in 2022,” he said.

He noted that the property is located in a Keystone Opportunity Zone, affording the company tax forgiveness status.

Starting at $2.99/week.
