The City of Williamsport codes administrator says the city is on target to meet its annual building permits budget of $300,000 by the middle of February.
Joseph Gerardi, city codes administrator, said several building permits were approved and projects are underway.
Among those are renovations on the third and fourth floor at the UPMC facility, a lacrosse stadium at Lycoming College near Union Avenue and remodeling at Wegmans, where a store manager said the plan and timing indicated it could be by the middle of the year and involve moving the beer and wine beverage section.
There is a planned remodeling in the 100 block of Pine Street for a family medical practice and a dental and health office remodeling in the Hepburn Street Plaza.
Details of these projects will be presented to council committees when appropriate.
"We are going to be about what we budgeted for the year by mid-February," Gerardi said.
A mixed-use apartments and commercial properties project by Pine Ridge Construction Management on Basin Street between East Fourth and East Third streets in the Old City Gateway rehabilitation project area is in the design phase with the initial plan soon to be up for review.
The initial construction of a new music facility for Lycoming College on East Fourth Street is expected to take place this spring and summer.
Patti Jackson-Gehris, chief operating officer, UPMC in North Central Pa., and president, UPMC Williamsport, said of the hospital construction:
"The work currently taking place on the fourth and fifth floors of the west wing of UPMC Williamsport is part of a multi-year comprehensive renovation and expansion project. The wing was built in 1962 and currently houses many of our rehabilitation services."
She continued, "In order to best meet the demand, expand services, foster innovation, and provide the highest quality care possible, we are creating new patient-centered spaces continuing our mission of providing life changing medicine at the UPMC Rehabilitation Institute at Williamsport. Renovations include transitioning many of the multi-patient rooms to all private rooms as well as the creation of two state-of-the-art gym spaces."
