The Lycoming County Coroner's Office is investigating the death of a Lycoming County Prison inmate who collapsed there on the afternoon of Jan. 15.

Chaz Turner, 33, of Williamsport, was rushed by ambulance from the jail at 277 W. Third St. to UPMC Williamsport, where he was pronounced dead at 2 p.m., said Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. on Monday morning.

Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, Kiessling said.

The manner and cause of death have yet to be determined, Kiessling said. An autopsy was recently performed at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.

Turner had been jailed since Jan. 4 following a disturbance hours earlier in the UPMC Williamsport, emergency department.

He was charged by UPMC Williamsport police with felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly assaulting two nurses, according to court records filed at the office of District Judge Aaron Biichle.

All charges were subsequently withdrawn by District Attorney Ryan Gardner following Turner's death.
