Work continues this week on a $41 million, multi-year safety improvement project along Route 220 in Woodward and Piatt townships.
PennDOT officials reported that work initially will focus on the Route 287 intersection in Piatt Township and Front Street in Linden.
The project involves enhancement and safety improvement for U-turns as well as roadway and structure upgrades.
On Monday, the eastern end of Front Street in Linden will close while a roadway is constructed for traffic to use the new bridge.
Starting April 4, work will begin to replace structures over Larry's Creek with detours expected for motorists.
PennDOT spokeswoman Maggie Baker said work will take place in daylight hours only and during off-peak traffic volume times to minimize traffic impacts.
The new traffic patterns could cause delays due to restrictions and reduced speed limit within the work zone with delays heaviest during rush hours.
"Motorists should be prepared for changing traffic patterns and plan for additional travel time due to reduced speeds through the work zone and expect some delays," she stated.
Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. is the prime contractor.
Last week, miscellaneous work was performed in preparation for construction.
Due to additional unanticipated repairs that were identified during construction, the project is expected to be completed by early summer 2023, Baker noted.
Motorists can expect the following changes in traffic patterns:
• Route 287 southbound traffic to Route 220 north will be detoured onto Route 220 south toward Jersey Shore and directed to use the Route 44 South/Main exit for Jersey Shore to access Route 220 northbound.
• Route 220 northbound traffic to Route 287 north will use the median U-turn near Martin’s Road to access Route 287 from Route 220 southbound.
• The exiting signal at the Route 220/Route 87 interchange will be turned off to facilitate continuous traffic flow.
