Williamsport City Council has approved a paving contract for construction inspection services to Bassett Engineering of Montoursville.
The contract for $46,318 is for one year.
The state liquid fuels fund will pay for the contract.
It will take a year to determine the value and return on investment.
The firm will not interfere with utility excavation inspection by city employee Dave Columbine.
Councilwoman Liz Miele and Councilman Eric Beiter voted against the contract.
Miele said she had a hard time understanding the return on investment of that amount of liquid fuels on a paving inspection service as did Beiter.
The contract was approved with a 4 to 2 vote with Councilwoman Bonnie Katz absent.
Council also approved a resolution awarding Brandon Park ballfield design services to Peters Consulting, Inc.
The contract is for $22,500 and the firm will then oversee construction firms that are hired.
Miele also did not vote in favor of the contract. She expressed concern about not seeing details of the timeline for the work. The vote was 5 to 1 with Katz absent.
