Montoursville nursing home raises funds for Ukraine

The community of Valley View Rehab & Nursing in Montoursville wants Ukrainian nursing home residents to know that they are thinking of them from across the ocean. The center recently raised $1,175 that will be donated to the Federation of Jewish Charities, earmarked for a nursing home in Ukraine or one in Poland that is home to Ukrainian refugees.

"We want them to know we are thinking of them and care about them," said Michele Brague, Valley View administrator, who spearheaded the effort.

Along with the monetary donation Valley View is sending five letters, written by the residents, to be given to the people in the nursing homes overseas.

"Their hearts go out to everyone that is going through it over there, they just want them to know they are thinking of them," said Bonnie Kane, Valley View recreational therapeutic aide.

Kane visited with the residents and asked each of them what they wanted to say to the Ukrainian refugees and combined their responses into the letters.

"Our heart goes out to them, we wanted them to know that we were thinking of them, praying for them, and we want their safety, their health, and we would like peace to come to them," said Nancy Koppel, a Valley View resident.
