South Side schools tie up teacher transfer and policy issues

South Williamsport Area School Board approved several employment transfer requests recently.

The administration recommended the school board approve the following transfer request by staff for the 2020 to 2023 school year:

• Ashley Zielewicz from Special Education K-12 to Elementary all subjects Grades 4 through 6 (Rommelt Grade 5 ELA).

• Madelyn Matthews from Special Education 7-12 to Math 7-12.

Tara Battaglia from Elementary K-6 to English 7-12 (grade 7 ELA).

• Transfer request superintendent approved:

• Kendra Billman for Elementary Art to Junior-Senior High School art.

• Andy Brown from Grade 6 Math to Grade 6 Science/Social Studies.

• Mike Steppe from Elementary Technology Education to Junior/Senior High School Technology Education.

• Karen Fink from Grade 7 Math to High School Math.

• Agnes Coder from Supplemental Special Education Grades 7 and 8 to Supplemental Special Education Grades 9-12.

• Hailey Carson from Special Education Grade 6 to Special Education Grades 7 and 8.

• Joella Harvey to Grade 6 Math at Step B-2 at a salary of $48,020.

Open Positions remain as follows:

• Art Education K-12 for Grades K-6

• Elementary Special Education for Central (1)

• Elementary Special Education for Rommelt (1)

• Family and Consumer Science K-12 for Junior/Senior High School

• Secondary Special Education for Junior/Senior High School

• Technology Education K-12 for Grades K-6

• Speech Pathologist

The board approved the resignation of Rebecca Swinehart from her Speech Pathologist position effective June 2.

It also approved:

• Gina Stoetzel as an instructional professional at Central Elementary School.

• Danny Reasoner, Skye McNamee, Cody Conser and James Karnes for maintenance and custodial positions.

• Destinee Chapman to the list of guest teachers as submitted by Blast IU 17.

The board tabled a property tax exoneration on Sylvan Dell Road that Armstrong Township requested.

The following policy amendments were approved:

• Bullying/cyberbullying

• Tobacco, vape and controlled substances.

• Conflict of Interest

• Policy for procurement

The board approved the creation of a new student Financial Award to be named the Jacqueline and Joseph Hamm Award for $600.

The board approved the Food Service renewal with Nutrition Inc.

The board heard from Bill Reifsnyder, director of Buildings and Grounds, who provided an update on school facilities, some of which will be addressed by McKissick Architects and decided on by the board for upgrades under capital projects.

The board was briefed on a cooperative formed under PIAA rules for boys tennis with St. John Neumann.

The board approved bills with approximate values: General Fund, $1.5 million; food service, $85,000; capital reserve, $1.9 million.

The board approved the final reading of the district calendar.
