By Mark Maroney 1 min read

City Council's public safety committee gave a positive recommendation for a resolution authorizing the Williamsport Bureau of Police to hire one police officer.

Jacob M. Huling, 25, a 2015 graduate of Jersey Shore Area High School, a 2020 graduate of Wilkes University and a recent Mansfield University Police Academy graduate and officer with UPMC Williamsport, would start, if council approves the hire, on May 16, said Chief of Police Justin Snyder.

The city has a budgeted complement of 48 officers. It is losing Lt. Steven Helm this Friday due to retirement and will be back at 47 officers for a few weeks until it has Huling on duty as of May 16, Snyder said.

Starting at /week.
