With new evidence coming to the surface, state police this week dropped nine misdemeanor counts each of terroristic threats and harassment against Lucaus Adam Butler, who spent the last four weeks in jail for a crime he did not commit.
The 18-year-old Williamsport Area High School student was arrested last month on charges that he allegedly sent a series of threatening text messages to two other students through his account with the school district's Microsoft team messaging platform. The messages were sent out during a two-day period.
However, investigators have since learned that a 16-year-old male student somehow managed to gain access to Butler's messaging-platform account and send out messages that appeared as if they were coming directly from Butler, but in fact were not, police explained.
The 16-year-old student, who has since admitted to sending the vicious messages from Butler's account, will now be petitioned into juvenile court on numerous charges related to this incident, police said. Juvenile court records are not public.
