The South Williamsport Area School Board voted to hire Dr. Eric Briggs as district superintendent at its meeting this week.
Briggs, who serves as superintendent of the Canton School District, was approved for a five-year contract with a starting annual salary of $140,000.
Briggs is expected to begin duties July 1 or as soon as he is released from his present contract with Canton.
He replaces Dr. Mark Stamm, who is leaving South Williamsport to take a job as superintendent of the East Lycoming School District.
Briggs thanked the school board for giving him the opportunity to become South Williamsport's
superintendent.
"I'm excited to move forward with things Dr. Stamm has in place," he said. "I know we have challenges ahead. July 1 is my goal to start working."
The board voted 8-0 to hire Briggs.
Todd Engel, Steve Rupert, Sue Bowman, Ben Brigandi, Summer Bukeavich, Diane Cramer, John Hitesman and Nathan Miller voted yes.
Cathy Bachman was absent.
