Gun violence in the city continued Sunday night when police, paramedics and city firemen were dispatched to a double shooting in the 2100 block Boyd Street, where two teenage boys were injured.

The two 15-year-old victims were expected to recover from their injuries, police said.

The victims were shot outside, where officers recovered anywhere from 10 to 15 casings in an area that was 30 to 40 yards apart.

One police source said two handguns were recovered near a neighbor’s shed. It was unknown if either one was used in the shooting.

Neighbors reported hearing two series of rapid gunshots separated by a minute or two.

“I figured someone was throwing fireworks. It was really loud,” one neighbor said. “About two minutes later, we heard another series of shots (close to the home, but in a different area),” the neighbor said.

“We didn’t know anyone was acutally hit until we saw police helping someone on the front steps,” they added.

“I knew the first set of shots were right outside our front door because they were so loud,” another neighbor said.

“This is no surprise. This isn’t the first time this has happened here,” another neighbor said, referring to the gunfire.

“This is Williamsport. There are shell casings scattered all across the alley,” the neighbor added.

Upon arriving on the scene about 9:30 p.m., police found two gunshot victims at the front of 2121-2123 Boyd St.

Both teens were quickly placed on stretchers, loaded into ambulances and transported to UPMC Williamsport.

As of Monday night, much of the case remained shrouded in mystery. In terms of details, investigators had little else to offer, only saying this was “an ongoing investigation.” It was unknown if police were looking for one or two gunmen. It was also unknown if one or both of the injured teens were armed. There was no explanation as to why there were two different shooting scenes. Police did not say what the two teens were doing when they were hit.

City police received assistance from state police, Pennsylvania College of Technology police and Old Lycoming Township police. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Agent Aaron Levan at 570-327-7560, ext. 7548.

Sunday’s violence was the third shooting in the city in five days.

About 9:45 p.m. Friday, a 16-year-old boy shot at a man at close range at West Edwin and Locust streets, police said.

The man, who was armed and had a permit to carry a concealed gun, returned fire, striking the teen three times, police said. The teen is recovering and was expected to be charged. More than a dozen shots were fired by the man, police said.

About 2 a.m. Wednesday, a 20-year-old man was fatally shot in the head in his apartment at the Victoria Gardens on Hepburn Street. No arrest has been made in this case.
