LIBERTY -- A man and woman are allegedly complicit in the shooting death last Friday of a Buffalo, New York, man slain in Liberty, state police said.
Leonardo Pagan-Acevedo, 33, of Bethlehem, and Denissa Alvarez-Matias, 32, of York, are both charged with homicide and related counts in the death of Jesus Iran Alicia-Santiago, 31, of Buffalo, police said.
An affidavit obtained by PennLive states the shooting was linked to the estranged couple meeting at 3 p.m. at a drop off for cars parking along Route 15 to exchange custody of their two-year-old child.
Pagan-Acevedo went with Alvarez-Matias to a restaurant parking lot while the custody exchange took place. When Alvarez-Matias returned to the restaurant parking lot, Alicia-Santiago followed, the affidavit states.
That is when a confrontation occurred, with Pagan-Acevedo getting a .45-caliber handgun from the glovebox of the car and shooting several times at Alicia-Santiago in his car.
Pagan-Acevedo and Alvarez-Matias left the scene. An autopsy
revealed Alicia-Santiago was struck once with the bullet hitting his abdomen.
He drove to a gas station on the other side of the interchange where he was found unconscious in his car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
State police say the exchange of the child can be seen on a store camera.
Additional charges against Pagan-Acevedo include aggravated assault, firearms not to be carried without a license, possession of an instrument of crime, propelling a missile into an occupied vehicle and endangering the welfare of a child. Alvarez-Matias also was charged with endangering the welfare of a child hindering prosecution.
They are being held without bail.
