Work on Williamsport Regional Airport tower to begin

Work is expected to soon begin on improvements to the tower at the Williamsport Regional Airport.
Airport Executive Director Richard Howell reported to the Williamsport Municipal Airport Authority at its September meeting that the $741,000 project amounts to a facelift with new windows, energy improvements, and other rehabilitation work.
Funding for the bulk of the project - about $700,000 – will come from federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law dollars, and the remaining from CARES Act money.
"We hope to do it (project) this fall," Howell said.
In other matters, Howell reported that the Montour Street project is progressing.
He noted that environmental clearance work is complete with design approval expected in October.
The $5.9 million project will extend Montour Street through the south end of Montoursville to the airport.
Howell reported the most recent developments for the sewer pump project.
Plans call for two new pumps, replacement of an existing pump panel, and bypass pumping as required.
Howell noted that most of the rehabilitation work for the main apron has been completed.
"The project went very well," he said.
The airport has received just over $1 million in CARES Act funding this year, according to Howell.
That brings the total amount of CARES dollars to date to $4.62 million.
The Authority met in executive session following the meeting to consider leasing matters.
