Trick-or-treat hours set, police commission questions answered

The Old Lycoming Township supervisors set trick-or-treating hours, accepted funds for a needed project and accepted a bid for a township vehicle this week.

Trick-or-Treating in the township will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, matching many other municipalities in the county.

The Bottle Run project is mandated by the state Department of Environmental Protection. The township accepted $104,000 from Lycoming County to start the work in the spring. Work is expected to last until January of 2024.

The township also accepted a Municibid for $10,000 for a vehicle from 2008 that is no longer needed.

During public comment, a resident asked for specifics on who would be on the police commission for the recently approved Lycoming County Regional Police, which includes Old Lycoming’s department as a charter member.

“Do the people on the police board need to be residents of the township,” the resident asked. “Do they need to live here?”

There will be two members from Jersey Shore, two from Porter Township and two from Old Lycoming Township on the commission, said Nathan DeRemer, department chief.

Not every member on the commission needs to be from the township.

“There needs to be one member-at-large and that member has to be from one of the charter members,” DeRemer said.

That member has not been chosen yet.

Another question about police regionalization was how much the township would be charging Hepburn and Lycoming townships, who made it known that they would not be paying for Old Lycoming police contracts if regionalization did not go through.

That decision will be made at an upcoming police commission meeting, said Supervisor Linda Mazzullo.

The township announced that leaf collection will be from Oct. 24 to Nov. 18. Bags need to be left at the end of the yard and only leaves will be collected.

In addition to Mazzullo, David Kay and David W. Shirn were present.

Starting at $2.99/week.
