Various events in the area over the next week will honor military veterans, including the annual Lycoming County Veterans Day Parade set for Saturday.
The parade, staged each year in a different community in the county, will be held this year in Jersey Shore.
The event is set to kick off at 2 p.m. from McCanna Drive with former U.S. Marine and Korean War veteran Howard Wilt serving as grand marshal.
Parade ambassador is Dan Muthler, a Marine veteran.
The review stand will be at the laundromat on Allegheny Street where a ceremony will be held to honor veterans.
Organizations represented in the parade will include veteran groups, volunteer fire departments, Daughters of the American Revolution, Trinidad North Steel Drum Band, Mount Nittany Band, Jersey Shore High School Band and cheerleaders, and Laurie Welteroth Dance Studio.
Also on Saturday, there will be a Veterans Appreciation Lunch at Fairlawn Community Church, 353 Pleasant Hill Road, Cogan Station at 12:30 p.m. U.S. Army Chaplain Capt. John H. Silvey will speak
Later in the week, the Montoursville Cemetery will be the site for the annual Veterans Day Ceremony in the community.
U.S. Rep. Fred Keller, R-Kreamer, will serve as keynote speaker for the event set for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11.
A Veterans Day Prayer for America will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church, 235 S. Main St.
State Rep. Joe Hamm, R-Hepburn Township, will be the keynote speaker.
The event will include Scripture readings, prayer, patriotic hymns, and music by Multi-Church Choir and Fair Play Brass.
There also will be a free veterans' breakfast at First Lutheran Church, 400 Main St., Watsontown, from 8 to 11 a.m. Friday.
