Tioga County employee announces candidacy for county commissioner

Marc Rice, an 18-year employee of Tioga County’s government, has announced his Republican candidacy for Tioga County Commissioner in 2023.

“I am a lifelong resident of Tioga County and a 2003 graduate of Wellsboro Area High School. I continued my education by obtaining an associate degree in risk management and project management professional,” Rice said, according to a news release. He has “worked in the commissioner’s office since 2009. During my employment with Tioga County, I have built relationships at the local, state and federal level and have gained significant insight into the workings of local government and county operations. If elected to serve the citizens of Tioga County, my experience in county government would provide consistency and continuity during a time of transition. I am committed to be a strong voice for all citizens of Tioga County and I will work collaboratively to bring meaningful change.”

Rice’s priorities, the news release said, would be improving communication with the public and ensuring transparency in county government, providing budgets and plans electronically to allow easier access for the public to view, continuing to operate the county efficiently to maintain a balanced budget and ensuring fair, secure and accurate elections, among others.

Rice lives in the Wellsboro area with his wife, Sara, and their two daughters, Whitney and Emmelyn.
