The City of Williamsport administration has proposed a memorandum of understanding between it, Williamsport Area School District and First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania regarding the resurfacing and maintenance of Cochran Primary School tennis courts.
Mayor Derek Slaughter presented the proposed resolution to council's Public Works Committee Tuesday, which discussed the proposed resurfacing of the courts at Cochran Elementary School, owned by the school district.
The goal is to see the courts playable again should the council see the benefit of the entities working together to improve the courts playing surface.
Additionally, the administration has been in touch with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) which may be able to provide a grant. Karen Hooker of West Branch Tennis Club at South Williamsport was lauded by Slaughter as a valuable resource by helping the administration to get into contact with officials at USTA.
Improvements may also be available for Elm Park tennis courts with a grant should council approve the memorandum of understanding and plans move ahead.
