Eric Newcomer, an elected township auditor whose term expires at the end of this year, has announced that he will run for the 6-year term for Muncy Creek Township supervisor, according to a news release.
Newcomer has earned an associate degree in electrical technology in 1994 from the Pennsylvania College of Technology and Construction programs in the school of engineering technology, according to the release. He then earned a bachelor's of applied technology in 2018 from Penn College and a master's of education in 2021 from Southern New Hampshire University. He is currently enrolled in the master of management program at Penn State University with a focus on strategic management and executive leadership. He plans to graduate from the program in 2024.
According to the release, Newcomer is the president of the Deater Foundation Inc., a not-for-profit organization who hopes to "promote awareness and raise funding to support research on HSAN1, a hereditary sensory neuropathy, with the hopes of finding potential treatment and cure for this disease." He has served as a former member of the EMT of the old Station 29, Clarkstown, where he helped "create a mutual aid agreement between the fire company and STRIKE K9 Search & Rescue, a Union County based land and water search and rescue team that trained dogs to locate lost hunters, hikers and others.
Newcomer, with his wife, Cindy, and two daughters, Alexis and Lindsey, has been a homeowner in Muncy Creek Township for over 20 years. Cindy was the secretary for Muncy Creek from 1999 to 2019. She has since been elected as treasurer for Lycoming County, according to the release.
Newcomer also started the Facebook group "Muncy Creek Message Board" in 2021 as a way to share and keep Muncy Creek Township residents informed about what is going on in the community, the release stated.
He was also "one of the driving forces behind the current supervisors creating a website used to disseminate governmental information to interested parties," the release said.
Newcomer said he looks forward to the "opportunity to continue serving the residents of Muncy Creek Township in this new capacity and plans to be a responsible, active and available member of the board of supervisors after his election."
