Fourteen-year member and current president of Jersey Shore Borough council, Sean Simcox, announced his intention to seek the position of Lycoming County commissioner on the Democratic ballot in the primary election according to a news release.
If elected, Simcox said his focus will be on "good governance," which he defines as "not only fiscal responsibility, but as a commitment to all segments of our society."
According to the release, he intends to focus on infrastructure improvement in the county, improvements in health care and emergency services as well as being a "proponent for industry and job growth."
As a member of Jersey Shore Borough council, Simcox said he has "long championed improving services and lowering costs for residents."
Simcox was part of helping create the Tiadaghton Valley Municipal Authority and the "building of a new municipal plant out of the flood zone," the news release said.
Additionally, he has served on the police commission as Jersey Shore evolved from a borough department to Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police department in 2010; was elected as the chair of the commission in 2016; and worked to help form Lycoming Regional Police Department, where he currently serves as chair of the commission.
According to the release, "The benefits of regionalization are more officers on duty and better service with no increase in cost. Regionalization saves taxpayers money."
Outside of the work related to Borough council, Simcox served as the chairman of the board for the Jersey Shore Hospital; is the current chairman of the Jersey Shore Public Library Endowment Fund Board; and has served as an Elder at the Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church.
The board for the Jersey Shore Hospital "successfully led the way to our purchase by rural healthcare specialist, Geisinger Health, again securing increased services to our local community. It also kept a key hospital in western Lycoming County open while continuing to provide much-needed healthcare and jobs."
"Holding these positions demonstrates my commitment to our community and to creating financially strong and secure institutions that thrive and make Lycoming County a better place to live, not just now, but for the future. My leadership skills are evident in my peers' ongoing trust in my abilities to work with Democrats and Republicans alike," Simcox said in the news release.
Simcox has worked in the financial services industry since 2005 and is currently employed as the financial solutions center manager of First Commonwealth Bank in Jersey Shore. Prior to that endeavor, he served as the director of operations for an early intervention center in Los Angeles, Calif, according to a news release.
Simcox has earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of California at Riverside.
Simcox currently resides in Jersey Shore, where he raised his family. He has been married to his wife Neva for 25 years and they have two daughters, Ella and Abigail.
