HUGHESVILLE -- Real estate taxes in the East Lycoming School District are headed for an increase following approval by the school board of the 2023-24 proposed final general fund budget. The increase of .89 mills means that homeowners will pay $89 more on every $100,000 of a property's assessed value.
Millage for real estate in the district will be set at 16.55 mills; the real estate transfer tax, Act 511, will be .5 of 1%; and the earned income tax, Act 24, will be 1.2%.
In another matter, a new website was revealed at this week's board meeting. The site was developed with the help of BLaST IU 17.
"The biggest thing with the website is the realization that people go to this for some critical information, but not a lot of information," Superintendent Mark Stamm told the board
"Nobody wants to read a lot on the website," he said, adding that people go there knowing what they want and expecting to find it.
To this end, the new website is lighter and more easily updated, he said.
The website can be accessed at elsd.org.
The board approved hiring Katurah Wyland as the district's athletic director at a salary of $55,000.
In other actions the board approved: establishing an Elementary Autistic Support classroom in the district; a bid of $30,505 from Douglas Equipment for a combi oven utilizing food service funds; an agreement with Fidevia LLC to provide construction management services/owner representative services for the constitution of Ashkar Elementary School as outline in the scope of services; a Memorandum of Understanding between the district and the East Lycoming Education Association to create a new position of Academic Department Chairperson; a Memorandum of Understanding with the Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania; and a proposal for planned HVAC maintenance from McClure Company for $8,648.
Revisions to several policies recommended by the Pennsylvania School Board Association to align with changes in the Home Education Programs were approved by the board.
The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 9, 2023 in the high school library, 349 Cemetery St. The public should enter through the library vestibule doors.
