John Houseknecht Jr. has announced his candidacy for the Region 3 seat of the Montoursville Area School Board. Houseknecht has lived in the borough for 67 of his 71 years and is a graduate of Montoursville High School, the announcement said.
Houseknecht retired after 30 years with the Kellogg Company where he was the senior production supervisor, overseeing multiple production lines and employees. He was the first supervisor hired by Kellogg's in 1987 and tasked with helping to start up the plant. He also worked on numerous projects, line start-ups and also product start-ups.
Houseknecht was also tasked with training all new supervisors, and was on the Kellogg team that negotiated one of the many contracts with the union.
Houseknecht works for the school district as building security and interacts with students regularly at Lyter Elementary, the announcement said.
Houseknecht has been involved as a manager, coach and board member of Montoursville Little League for 41 years. He has also coached youth football for 20 years and elementary basketball for 20 years.
This past season, Houseknecht was the head coach for Montoursville's eighth grade boys basketball team.
Houseknecht has great ties with the kids of Montoursville as well as the School District and community.
