Motorists could experience 15-minute stoppages between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. on the bridge over the West Branch of the Susquehanna River and at the Route 15 interchange south of Winfield.
This is due to the final major work on the northern section of the Central Susquehanna Valley Thruway which is about to start, according to PennLive.com.
Overhead sign structures will be erected on the nearly mile-long bridge over the river and at the interchange.
Work, which will entail lane closures, is scheduled to begin today, and take place both during the day and at night, PennDOT noted.
The project is scheduled for completion in mid-May.
The northern section of the thruway was opened last July with temporary directional signs erected.
Difficulty getting the material prevented a contractor from erecting structures earlier, PennDOT said, according to the media source.
As the final work on the thruway's north section begins, earthmoving continues on the southern section that will connect the Route 15 interchange with the northern end of the Selinsgrove bypass.
Beginning April 17, Sunbury Road in Shamokin Dam and Monroe Township will be closed for excavation work and construction of a bridge that will carry the local road over the thruway.
It is part of the $115.2 million earthmoving contract awarded to Trumbull Corp. Final design work continues on plans for the second and third construction contracts for structures and pavement, respectively.
The entire 12.4-mile, $938 million thruway is scheduled for completion in 2027.
