Montoursville Area School Board approves proposed no-tax hike budget

The Montoursville Area School Board at its recent meeting approved a proposed no-tax hike budget for next year.
The $33.5 million spending plan will go before the board for final approval in June.
There was no discussion on the budget prior to the 7-0 vote in favor of the spending plan. At previous meetings, the board had discussed the possibility of hiking the real estate tax millage rate.
This year's budget included a 0.30 millage increase, which translated to an additional $30 in taxes for those with assessed properties of $100,000.
Voting "yes" on the budget were Joseph LeCrone, Ron Snell, David Shimmel, Dale Ulmer, Todd Badger, Daniel Albert and Susan Beery. Dottie Mathers and David Young were absent.
In other matters, the board approved the retirement of Brian Batkowski, an elementary school teacher, who has served the district for 30 years. His retirement is effective January 2024.
The board approved the hirings of Stacey Dangle, social studies teacher, and Evan Williams, technology support staff.
Aurora Beagle was approved as a part-time paraprofessional at $12.75 per hour and David Malkin as a guest teacher.
The board approved a contract with BLaST IU 17 for shared education services for the 2023-2024 school year at a cost of $837,055.
The board approved an agreement with UPMC Sports Medicine to provide athletic training services for boys and girls teams.
The next board meeting is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at Montoursville Area High School.
