Democrat Williamsport Mayor Derek Slaughter goes into the fall general election unchallenged, and there were no City Council nominees listed as write-ins on the official results of the May 16 municipal primary as provided by the Lycoming County Board of Elections.
It does not mean there were no write-ins, but there were not enough to get any names on the fall ballot for the general election. Williamsport was not included in the list of municipalities on the write-in list of nominees published on the county website. All other write-in votes are listed on the county Board of Elections' page. These write-in votes not cast for a write-in nominee or tie vote candidate are scattered write-in votes that did not affect the outcome of any contest.
In order to be nominated by write-in votes in a primary, a candidate must receive at least as many write-in votes as the number of signatures that would be required on a nomination petition. In the city, that is 100 votes and it is 10 votes in townships, boroughs and school districts.
Write-in nominees will be notified by mail and have until June 23 to file the required documents to accept the nomination.
Following the primary, the city council nominees will be Democrat Jon Mackey, and Republicans Bonnie Katz, Vincent Pulizzi and Adam Yoder, according to official election results.
Councilwoman Liz Miele is seeking the controller position running against incumbent controller Margaret Peg Woodring. Kevin Mackey is the nominee for city treasurer.
Loyalsock Township Democrat William C. Smith had 19 write-in votes for six-year supervisor nominee.
Democrat Old Lycoming Township supervisor David W. Shirn received 13 write-in votes for supervisor six-year term, while Democrat Justin Kastner received 30 write-in votes for a four-year supervisor.
