Consulting firm to go after $2.6M for pathway project

A connector pathway alley could be revitalized in Williamsport as part of the Old City renovation project.

Thomas Keller, of Keller Partners and Co., of Washington, D.C., said an attempt will be made to get $2.6 million into an appropriations bill for the pathway improvement, a project co-jointly supported by the city and Lycoming College.

The funding would be used to create green infrastructure along the alley and make it passable for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The pathway leads to several projects under way and is close to the Susquehanna Riverwalk.

The pathway runs parallel between East Third and Fourth streets with its western terminus at Market Street and the eastern end on Basin Street.

City Councilwoman Liz Miele noted how vital the riverwalk connector portion was for the city to complete.

The sidewalk access across Via Bella on Basin Street, would continue and go beneath Interstate 180 before getting walkers and bicyclists over the railroad tracks and onto and off the riverwalk.

"We should know in the next couple months whether or not that $2.6 million makes it through into the appropriations committee," Keller said.
