Williamsport City Council tabled a vote to reject the Brandon Park Bandshell rehabilitation project bids, which came in higher than the amount of funding available at this time.
The city administration received two bids, a low bid of $567,900 from Lundy Construction and $615,086 from M&R Contracting, said Jon Sander, city engineer.
Additionally, the city has the construction inspection contract and designer from Gannett-Fleming for $21,000. That brings the total cost of the estimate for the rehab to close to $600,000.
The city currently has $400,00 in available funding for the project or a present $200,000 shortfall.
The administration recommended that the bids be rejected at this time and to seek other funding such as potential Community Development Block Grant funds in the future.
The project was initially reviewed earlier in a merged finance and public works committee meeting.
There is a possibility that no work could be done until next year.
However, because the city wanted to have some summer concerts and activities, it is exploring whether the pavilion area of Way's Garden could be utilized because the bandshell cannot be used for the concerts at this time.
Council voted to hold off on the rejection bid and will return in two weeks to review what the administration thinks about the idea of the use of Way's Garden for summer concerts and activities.
