Muncy Borough Council approved a contract with Big Rock Paving, Mount Wolf, for paving work this summer during its recent regular monthly meeting.
The project will entail paving of Sherman, South Market and Brady streets as well as South McCarty and Green alleys.
Under the agreement, the work is to be completed by Oct. 31.
Big Rock submitted the lowest bids from among firms vying for the paving job.
Council voted to apply for funding of $2,140 from Lycoming County to go toward the work.
Council briefly discussed expanding parking space at Waldron Park and making use of asphalt millings for the parking surface.
"I think there is a need for extra parking," council President Bill Scott said.
Council discussed the issue of several vacant residences in the borough in need of property maintenance.
It was reported that the grass at one residence on Division Street is two to three feet high and poses health concerns.
Scott said he would be in favor of allowing the borough to clean up some of the properties.
Councilman Scott Delany reported that the building being erected for the Muncy Area Fire Department on East Penn Street is nearing completion but may not be ready by the June 22 target date.
The closing date on the sale of the fire department's existing site on Main Street is set for the end of the month, he said.
Scott thanked the fire department and borough police for their assistance at the Memorial Day Parade on May 29.
The next council meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 11 at the borough hall, 14 N. Washington St., Muncy.
