The Williamsport Municipal Airport Authority acted upon and discussed infrastructure needs and other matters during its July meeting.

The Authority approved a monthly payment of $207,801 to Lundy Construction toward rehabilitation work for the control tower.

Williamsport Regional Airport Executive Director Richard Howell noted that the work is about 60% to 70% completed and on schedule.

The work, which includes new windows, doors, wall panels, energy improvements and other rehabilitation, is being funded through federal dollars.

Howell reported to the Authority that Montoursville Borough will no longer be the sponsor of the Montour Street extension project.

The plan calls for providing additional access from the borough to the airport using Montour Street.

“The borough wants nothing to do with the project,” Howell said. “We are trying to get the county to be the sponsor.”

Without the borough as a sponsor, aspects of the project such as streetscape work and sewer improvements, will likely not be included.

Estimated cost of the project at one time was more than $5 million.

“The borough doesn’t want to be financially on the hook. They didn’t want to take that risk,” Scott Williams, Authority solicitor said.

The Authority approved a five-year lease agreement with the American Youth Soccer Organization for use of the field near the airport.

The Authority welcomed Suzette Snyder as the newest member of its board.

Snyder, of Montoursville, formerly worked in human resources at Textron.

She was appointed by the Lycoming County Commissioners to serve on the Authority.

The Authority met in executive session following the meeting to consider personnel matters and other issues.

The next meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10 at the airport.

Starting at $3.90/week.
