Hughesville Borough Council approved the purchase of body cameras for the police department at a cost of $2,780 and took care of other business during its most recent meeting.
Borough officials had discussed securing four cameras for the police at the previous council meeting in June.
The use of body cameras by police has increased in recent years and can reportedly be useful to provide an accurate account of incidents between officers and suspects.
In other action, council announced no parking on parts of several streets during the Lycoming County Fair held annually in Hughesville.
The no-parking street areas will be:
• Main Street, both sides, Lycoming to Broadway.
• South Second Street, east side, Academy to Lycoming.
• South Third Street, both sides, Water Street to the fair gate.
• South Fourth Street, east side, Academy to Broadway.
• South Fifth Street, west side, Water to Broadway.
The fair this year is set for July 12 to July 22.
Council briefly discussed the deteriorating condition of the handicapped accessible ramp entrance to the municipal building and agreed to check costs for having it repaired or replaced.
Council was asked to consider purchasing 25 street cones for the borough.
It was noted that many cones go missing including those borrowed from the borough that are not returned.
Council was approached by Hughesville Volunteer Fire Chief Dan Dorman to consider a donation to offset the purchase of portable radios for firefighters.
He told council that the department is also using grant money to buy the radios.
Council President Andrew Mook told Dorman borough officials would consider the matter.
Council discussed upgrading the borough website. It was noted that the site recently has been inaccessible.
Borough officials noted there is a vacancy to fill on the borough water authority.
Mook announced that those interested in serving on the board should apply.
Council met in executive session following the meeting to consider legal and personnel matters.
