The state Senate recently passed legislation to name a planned boat launch in Muncy after the late Garth Everett, who represented Muncy and rural Lycoming County in the state House for many years.
"Today, the Pennsylvania Senate unanimously approved House Bill 1031, sponsored by Rep. Joe Hamm, to name a new boat launch access in Muncy, Lycoming County, the 'Representative Garth Everett Muncy Access Area,'” state Sen. Gene Yaw, R-Loyalsock Township, said in a news release Friday. "Garth was a friend, colleague and fierce advocate for the 84th District. Before his passing, he was instrumental in making the Muncy Boat Access project a reality. I am honored to support this legislation to ensure that his legacy will carry on and I thank my colleagues for their support."
Everett was elected to seven terms, retiring when he chose not to run for reelection in 2020.
"He was a committed public servant," Hamm told the Sun-Gazette shortly after his death on Jan. 28. "He was committed to making Pennsylvania a better place to live, raise a family, and retire to."
"He worked on issues that were meaningful to the people of Lycoming County and surrounding areas, looking for solutions that would improve the quality of life and opportunities in his district and across the Commonwealth," state Rep. Clint Owlett, R-Liberty, told the Sun-Gazette after Everett's death.
