The Williamsport Municipal Airport Authority approved payments to Lundy Construction Co. Inc. for infrastructure improvements and took care of other business during its August meeting.
One payment of $175,165 is directed to air traffic tower renovations and another for $72,360 toward the maintenance building project.
Airport Executive Director Richard Howell reported that the tower project, which includes installation of new windows, doors, wall panels and other rehabilitation work, is nearly complete.
Howell said work is under way to erect the maintenance building east of the airport terminal.
The building, to house trucks, snow equipment, and other apparatus, is being constructed at a cost of $5.3 million and will be funded by Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES Act) dollars.
The authority approved an engineering agreement with Transystems for the sanitary sewer pump station project.
The work involves replacement of two pumps and is expected to be completed by December.
Authority Chairman Frank Pellegrino reported that the county has agreed to take over sponsorship of the Montour Street project from the borough.
Plans to extend Montour Street will bring an additional access road to the airport.
Parts of the street belong to either the borough or the state.
It was noted that although the borough has pulled out from being the sponsor, it may still be involved with the project.
The airport remains without commercial flights but continues to be used for non-commercial air traffic, according to officials.
American Airlines pulled service from the airport in 2021, leaving the local area without commercial flights.
Officials gave no update on any progress toward returning commercial service to the airport.
The authority met in executive session following the regular meeting to consider lease matters.
The next meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 at the airport's terminal building.
