A woman escaped injury when her Saturn Vue XR struck a brick support pillar, at left, at 1964-1966 W. Fourth St. about 7:20 a.m. Friday, according to city fire and police officials. The building is owned by the Republican League, which occupies the second floor. The league has rented the first floor to the U.S. Post Office for decades, according to Tim Pardoe, a league steward who responded to the scene. No one was in the building at the time, he said. The city's Codes Department responded and inspected the damage. Officials deternined the building was safe to occupy and removed the yellow temporary barrier so both the post office and club could open shortly after 9 a.m., Pardoe said.
