National, international teams to battle for 2023 Little League World Series crown

By Jon Gerardi 2 min read

Only four teams remain in the Little League World Series vying for a World Series championship title. Both the International and United States championship games are scheduled for this afternoon at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m., respectively.

Both will be played at Lamade Stadium.

Kuei-Shan Little League of Taoyuan, Chinese Taipei will play Pabao Little League of Willemstad, Curacao for the International championship. Chinese Taipei is looking to get to the World Series final for the first time since 2009. Current manager Lee Cheng-Ta coached the 2009 team and is hoping for another big win.

For Curacao, this is Pabao Little League's second consecutive trip to the International championship game. Last year, manager Zaino Everett and his team finished as World Series runners-up. Pabao Little League also finished as runners-up in 2019. No International teams competed in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and no Series was played in 2020.

In the United States' final, Needville, Texas will face El Segundo, California. Texas remains undefeated at this year's Series with a 4-0 mark while California is 4-1.

Both championship games are rematches from this past week.

Texas defeated California, handing the team its lone loss at Lamade Stadium on Monday night. Curacao ran into the buzzsaw that is Chinese Taipei at Volunteer Stadium on Wednesday. Curacao held their own against Chinese Taipei early, but a six-run fifth inning by the Asia-Pacific Regional champions proved to be the difference in the 9-1 win.

All four teams are still guaranteed one more game on Sunday regardless of Saturday's outcome.

The Little League World Series consolation game will be played at 11 a.m. at Lamade Stadium, and the World Series championship game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start at Lamade Stadium.
