Scattered throughout the Little League Complex are signs directing fans to download the new Little League World Series app, which was released in July before the start of the Little League Softball World Series in Greenville, North Carolina
"Some of the most popular features have been the Fan Pass that gives visitors a chance to check in at all the activations around the Fan Zone, push notifications announcing game start times and final score alerts for teams selected in our fan preference questions, as well as exclusive pin drops and giveaways for fans attending the LLBWS," said Mike Weslosky, Little League director of web and emerging technologies.
By tracking the app data, Weslosky has noticed that fan engagement with the FanCam photos greatly increased since the start of the Little League Baseball World Series.
Fans also have been engaged with the tournament information, including game schedule, bracket and team information.
"We look forward to more engagement throughout the remainder of the tournament," he said. "So far, our fans have been very pleased with the exclusive access, event specific information -- maps, concessions, parking/travel and more -- and additional resources the LLWS App provides."
As regular goers to the Little League Baseball World Series know, tickets for Championship games typically are not available to the general public because they're provided to team families, league volunteers and special guests.
"Any that do become available will be distributed via the Little League World Series App," Weslosky said. "Fans will have the option to enter for the chance to receive two tickets inside Howard J. Lamade Stadium for Saturday and Sunday's Championship games. Fans should complete a brief form on the LLWS App and specify the days and games of the tickets they are interested in. Although availability of tickets will be extremely limited, app users who enter will be selected at random and receive a confirmation notification from the app."
With more than 3,000 ticket responses already, Weslosky wanted to remind fans that admission is always free and there are plenty of great seats available on the iconic Lamade Hill with no ticket required.
For fans who couldn't make it to the Little League World Series, the app gives them a chance to be a part of the action by receiving game notifications, video recaps, news and promotions.
"Any fan who downloads and registers for the app can submit FanCam photos from just about anywhere," Weslosky said. "We've also had roughly a 95% engagement rate for all fans who downloaded our app."
"While we are thrilled with how the app has performed so far, we will continue to evaluate its performance and work to identify what the fans of the Little League World Series are interested in, in order to provide them with the best possible experience during their time in Williamsport, Greenville and other locations now and in the future," Weslosky said.
