Local, state gas prices climb again
Pain at the gas pumps.
The price of regular gasoline and diesel continue to climb each month, bringing prices closer to the $4 mark across Greater Williamsport.
The price across the state ranged from a low of $3.36 per gallon to $3.95 per gallon.
Lowest seen in the region was $3.75/76 at Kwik Fill, 2601 Lycoming Creek Road, and Sam’s Club, Muncy Township.
Throughout Pennsylvania, diesel fuel has gone up 23 cents in the past month to $4.57 per gallon on average, according to AAA.
According to Gasbuddy.com, Exxon is selling gas at $3.79-$3.89 per gallon, while Conoco, 1431 High St., is $3.79 per gallon.
Other prices include Sunoco, 1001 Dewey Ave., $3.89, Exxon; Nittany Minit Mart, 2300 W. Fourth St., $3.89; Mobil, 2308 Lycoming Creek Road, $3.76; Weis Markets, $3.87; Citgo, $3.89; Sheetz, $3.95 and Turkey Hill, 700 Washington Blvd., $3.76.
It is still far better than what California is averaging, which is $5.69 per gallon, according to a report in Reuters.
Oil at the start of the week was about $93 per barrel with Nigerian crude oil reaching the $100 mark.
The oil prices are expected to remain at $90 per barrel or greater heading into the fall and winter heating season from October through March.
The national average increased a bit over the last week due to continued refinery challenges in the western U.S., according to petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, a significant reason crude oil has been on a three-month upward trend is due largely to Saudi Arabia elevating prices to fund its own domestic initiatives.
