Lycoming Engines and negotiators for United Automobile Workers Local 787 have resumed face-to-face meetings, a company official said this week.
"At this time, no new date for a contract vote has been set," said Shannon Massey, senior vice president at Lycoming Engines, an Operating Division of Avco Corp., 642 Oliver St.
The plant manufactures aircraft engines and union officials voted down the most recent last best contract offer over differing viewpoints on salaries, pension and healthcare contributions.
Shortly after the workers voted down the contract offer, Lonnie Everett, Region 9 United Automobile Workers International representative, said 370 unionized employees were working without a contract in place at the piston aviation engine manufacturer since July 29. The plant employs 550, Massey said.
Negotiations between the union and company began April 3, and workers were presented with the last, best and final offer for a five-year contract, which 96% of them voted down.
The proposed contract was not adequate in terms of a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) and health care costs were not guaranteed over the life of the five-year agreement, Everett previously noted.
The last, best and final offer for five years is available for the public to see on the company website.
