Montgomery Area School Board member steps down

The Montgomery Area School Board accepted the resignation of a school director and approved on first reading a policy on transportation during its recent regular monthly meeting.

Hugh Umpstead, who represents Clinton Township Region 2, has stepped down from the board.

His term was set to expire in 2025.

No reason was given for his resignation.

The transportation policy will address procedures regarding busing accidents and student safety.

In part, the policy provides guidelines for students to remain on the scene following an accident and to be checked there by emergency personnel and later by the school nurse.

The policy also includes guidelines for informing students of parents of an accident.

“This policy is not quite finished,” District Superintendent Daphne Bowers told the board.

School directors are expected to approve a final reading of the policy in October.

The board approved the hiring of Christopher Glenn as varsity head softball coach and Tim Persing as varsity head softball coach for the 2023-2024 season.
