COLLOMSVILLE -- An elderly man was killed late Monday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle on Mountain Road in Bastress Township, near his Limestone Township home, according to Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr.
Emergency responders believed Frederick Morris, 85, was heading to his nearby home when his motorcycle upset as he was traveling south on the two-lane township road about 4:40 p.m. State police said as the 2023 Honda Grom flipped on its side, Morris, who lived on Lorson Road, was ejected from the vehicle and thrown about 50 feet. Although Morris was wearing a helmet at the time, Kiessling said the helmet was dislodged from his head when he was ejected.
A sheriff deputy who either witnessed the accident or came upon it moments after it happened found Morris unresponsive and in cardiac arrest, according to Nippenose Valley Fire Chief Dean Miller. The deputy immediately began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and a DuBoistown ambulance crew took over CPR when they arrived on the scene.
"He had a faint pulse when we loaded him into the ambulance," Miller said of the motorcyclist, who was rushed to UPMC Williamsport, where he was pronounced dead at 5:40 p.m. of "traumatic injuries," Kiessling said.
