Borough of Montgomery under boil water advisory
The Montgomery Water Authority has issued a boil water advisory until further notice after a water main break near Brouse Road and Route 405 resulted in a loss of positive water pressure.
Such a loss can signal that conditions exist that could allow microbial disease-causing contaminants to enter the distribution system.
Residents are advised to boil water before drinking or using it for any purpose that may result in ingestion, including making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation, the Montgomery Water Authority said.
To properly reduce the chance of consuming contaminated water, those in the affected area should bring all water to a rolling boil, continuing for at least one minute, letting it cool before using it.
They may alternatively use bottled water.
Symptoms of ingesting contaminated water may include nausea, cramps, diarrhea and headaches.
Those who experience such symptoms after drinking untreated water should seek medical advice, according to the Montgomery Water Authority.
Those with compromised immune systems, the elderly and infants may be at an increased risk for adverse effects.
More tips on decreasing the risk of microbial infections can be obtained from the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
