The 90-day test of stop signs at the corner of Campbell Street and Vernon Avenue and at the bottom of the hill at Campbell Street has been met as of Friday and city administration will now weigh whether the stop signs remain up.
City Council's seven members listened at their meeting to proponents of keeping the signs up for the safety of drivers, pedestrians and children playing and opponents of keeping the signs up. Members also heard an idea of adding street bumps to slow down drivers.
A petition with names on it to remove the signs was given to the mayor and city clerk office. The signs were put up in July as a test. All factors will be reviewed on whether the signs remain up, according to Scott Livermore, of the city's Public Works Department.
In other action taken, council approved an ordinance of street vacation for a portion of Northern 132 Seventh Ave. on final reading. Gary Knarr, zoning administrator, said he received no inquiries.
Council approved an ordinance amending Article 131 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Williamsport setting the compensation of the city controller.
Council approved purchase of a Sharp copier for the Office of City Clerk, a resolution for a consulting agreement between the Williamsport Bureau of Police and PA Chiefs of Police Association for oral board promotions. It approved a resolution authorizing the purchase of MiMECAST, for secure email in the city.
City Treasurer Kevin Mackey received permission for resolutions for a letter of engagement with Kathleen M. Thomas, Esquire, for Marcum LLP, Accountants and Advisors and authorizing PSDLAP to act as settler.
