City Fire gets utility truck upfitted

By Mark Maroney 1 min read

Williamsport City Council gave the city Bureau of Fire permission to buy a Chevrolet Silverado equipped for responding to fires and rescues.

The purchase agreement is between the fire department and Bergey's Chevrolet and Levan Machine and Truck.

The department will buy a gas-fueled 2024 Chevrolet Silverado with a box on it that is designed for needs of water rescue, rope rescue and support equipment needed for battling structure fires.

The overall cost is $51,202 for the truck and $32,581 for the utility box.

The money will come from capital projects, which budgeted $90,000 for the utility truck.

The $6,000 left will be used for upfitting with lights, striping and sirens, according to fire officials.

The request for the truck and upfitting went before the Council Public Safety Committee.

It will require nine months for the order and delivery of the truck, according to Chief Sam Aungst and Assistant Chief Keith Lucas.

The older vehicle, a 2006 Ford F-350, will go back to the North Central Pa. Task Force, they said.

The fire bureau also received approval to purchase a direct pipe water filtration system from the regional Culligan Water company.

Firefighters are always encouraged to remain hydrated with the work they do.
